Michael Flannery
Michael Flannery (7 January 1903 – 30 September 1994) was an Irish republican who fought in the Irish War of Independence and the Irish Civil War. He supported the Provisional IRA during The Troubles and was a founder of NORAID. Flannery was born in Cangort, near Brosna, on the border of County Offaly and County Tipperary, on 7 January 1903. He joined the Irish Volunteers in 1916 and participated in the Irish War of Independence. Captured by the National Army during the Irish Civil War, he was imprisoned in Mountjoy Prison. Flannery witnessed the execution of Anti-Treaty IRA leaders from his cell window. He went on a 28-day hunger strike during his imprisonment.
