Michael Flynn

Michael Thomas Flynn is a retired United States Army lieutenant general and former national security advisor. Born on December 24, 1958, Flynn had a distinguished military career, playing a key role in shaping U.S. counterterrorism strategy and dismantling insurgent networks during the Afghanistan and Iraq Wars. He held various combat arms, conventional, and special operations senior intelligence assignments. Flynn served as the 18th director of the Defense Intelligence Agency from July 2012 to August 2014. In 2017, he became the 24th U.S. national security advisor, but resigned after reports emerged that he had lied about conversations with the Russian ambassador. Flynn has also given a lecture on leadership at the headquarters of the Russian military intelligence directorate GRU, marking the first time an American official was granted entry to the facility.
