Michael Gough Biography
Francis Michael Gough (23 November 1916 – 17 March 2011) was a British character actor known for his roles in over 150 film and television appearances. He gained recognition for his performances in the Hammer horror films, starting with his role as Sir Arthur Holmwood in Dracula. Gough is also well-known for his portrayal of Alfred Pennyworth in the Batman films directed by Tim Burton and Joel Schumacher. He appeared in several other Burton films, including Sleepy Hollow, Corpse Bride, and Alice in Wonderland. Gough made notable television appearances in Doctor Who, The Avengers, and received a British Academy Television Award for Best Actor in 1956. Throughout his career, Gough demonstrated his comedic talent at the National Theatre in London.
