Michael McClure Biography
Michael McClure (October 20, 1932 – May 4, 2020) was an American poet, playwright, songwriter, and novelist. He gained recognition as one of the five poets who read at the renowned San Francisco Six Gallery reading in 1955. McClure was a prominent member of the Beat Generation and was portrayed as Pat McLear in Jack Kerouac's Big Sur. He attended the Municipal University of Wichita, the University of Arizona, and San Francisco State College, where he earned his B.A. in 1955. McClure's debut poetry collection, Passage, was published in 1956 by Jonathan Williams, a small press publisher. He was known for his ability to convey his entire body's thought through his writing.
