Michael Francis Moore (born April 23, 1954) is an American film director, producer, screenwriter, and author. He gained public recognition for his award-winning debut documentary, Roger & Me, which examined the decline of the automotive industry in 1980s Detroit. Moore followed up with the critically acclaimed Bowling for Columbine in 2002, which won the Academy Award for Best Documentary Feature. His documentary Fahrenheit 9/11, a critique of George W. Bush's presidency and the War on Terror, became the highest-grossing documentary in American box office history. Sicko, another of Moore's documentaries, focused on the healthcare system in the United States. Throughout his career, Moore has tackled topics related to globalization and capitalism.
