Michael Penn (born August 1, 1958) is an American musician, singer, and composer. He gained recognition with his 1989 single 'No Myth,' which reached the top 20 on the US charts and achieved success internationally. Born in Manhattan's Greenwich Village, Penn is the son of actor and director Leo Penn and actress Eileen Ryan, and the brother of actors Sean Penn and Chris Penn. He attended Santa Monica High School and began his musical career as a member of the band Doll Congress. Penn made appearances on television series such as St. Elsewhere and was a musical guest on Saturday Night Live in 1987. His debut album 'March' and its single 'No Myth' catapulted him into the spotlight, earning him the 1990 MTV Video Music Award for Best New Artist.
