Mike Dirnt, born Michael Ryan Pritchard on May 4, 1972, is an American rock musician. He is best known as the co-founder, bassist, backing vocalist, and occasional lead vocalist of the band Green Day. Dirnt has also played in other bands, including the Frustrators. His stage name, Dirnt, originated from a childhood nickname given by his friends because he would constantly play 'air bass/guitar' and make a 'dirnt, dirnt, dirnt' noise while pretending to pluck the strings. Despite facing challenges such as his parents' divorce and his mother's drug use, Dirnt excelled in school. He remains a prominent figure in the rock music industry.
