Miles Dewey Davis III (May 26, 1926 – September 28, 1991) was an American jazz musician, trumpeter, bandleader, and composer. He is widely considered one of the most influential and acclaimed figures in the history of jazz and 20th-century music. Born in Alton, Illinois, and raised in East St. Louis, Davis studied at Juilliard in New York City before joining saxophonist Charlie Parker's bebop quintet. Davis then recorded the Birth of the Cool sessions, which played a crucial role in the development of cool jazz. Throughout his career, he explored various musical directions and played a pivotal role in major stylistic developments in jazz. Davis' contributions to the genre continue to be celebrated and admired by musicians and fans alike.
