Missy Elliott, born Melissa Arnette Elliott on July 1, 1971, is an American rapper, singer, songwriter, and record producer. Also known as Misdemeanor, she began her music career as a member of the R&B girl group Sista in the early-mid 1990s. Elliott later joined the Swing Mob collective, working with childhood friend and collaborator Timbaland on projects for R&B artists such as Aaliyah, 702, Total, and SWV. In 1997, she launched her solo career with the release of her debut album, 'Supa Dupa Fly,' which featured the hit single 'Sock It 2 Me.'
