Mona Eltahawy (منى الطحاوى, born August 1, 1967) is a freelance Egyptian-American journalist and social commentator based in New York City. She has written essays and op-eds for publications worldwide on Egypt and the Islamic world, focusing on women's rights, patriarchy, and Muslim political and social affairs. Eltahawy's work has been featured in renowned publications such as The Washington Post, The New York Times, Christian Science Monitor, and the Miami Herald. In May 2015, she published her first book, Headscarves and Hymens. Eltahawy has also appeared as a guest analyst on various U.S. radio and television news shows. She is known for being a leading voice in the Mosque Me Too movement, which aimed to raise awareness about sexual harassment in sacred spaces.
