Myq Kaplan (born October 7, 1978) is an American stand-up comedian known for his witty and intellectual style. Born as Michael Kaplan in Livingston, New Jersey, he is currently based in Boston and New York City. Kaplan earned his bachelor's degree from Brandeis University in 2000 and a master's degree in linguistics from Boston University. He gained recognition after winning Boston University's 'funniest student' contest in 2005. Kaplan has toured extensively across North America, performing over 1,000 shows at comedy clubs. He has been a semifinalist in the 2006 Boston Comedy Festival and the 2006 Seattle Comedy Competition. Kaplan was also a finalist in Comedy Central's 2007 Open Mic Fight competition and was named Local Comedian of the Year by Boston's The Phoenix in 2008. He has appeared on Comedy Central's Live at Gotham, participated in Montreal's Just for Laughs comedy festival in 2009, and has been featured on ABC News Now.
