Nancy Marchand Biography
Nancy Marchand (June 19, 1928 – June 18, 2000) was an American actress known for her work in theater and television. Born in Buffalo, New York, on June 19, 1928, she grew up in Amherst, New York. Marchand attended Amherst High School and studied acting at the Studio Theatre School in Buffalo. She graduated from the Carnegie Institute of Technology in 1949 and further honed her skills at the Herbert Berghof Studio in New York City. Marchand made her professional stage debut in 1946 and later made her Broadway debut in 1951. She gained recognition for her television roles as Margaret Pynchon in Lou Grant and Livia Soprano in The Sopranos.
