Ncuti Gatwa Biography
Ncuti Gatwa is a Rwandan-Scottish actor born on October 15, 1992, in Nyarugenge, Kigali, Rwanda. He began his acting career at the Dundee Repertory Theatre and received a nomination for an Ian Charleson Award for his portrayal of Mercutio in a 2014 production of Romeo & Juliet. Gatwa gained recognition for his role as Eric Effiong, a gay teenager, in the Netflix series Sex Education (2019–2023), which earned him a BAFTA Scotland Award for Best Actor in Television and three BAFTA Television Award nominations for Best Male Comedy Performance. In 2022, he was cast as the fifteenth incarnation of The Doctor in Doctor Who. Gatwa's father, Tharcisse Gatwa, is a journalist with a PhD in theology.
