Neil Oliver (born 21 February 1967) is a Scottish television presenter, author, and former archaeologist. Known for his captivating documentaries on archaeology and history, he has hosted popular series such as A History of Scotland, Vikings, and Coast. Oliver is also a prolific author, with a focus on popular history books and historical fiction. He served as the president of the National Trust for Scotland from 2017 to 2020. Currently, Oliver works for GB News. It's worth mentioning that he has faced criticism for allegedly promoting COVID-19 misinformation, climate change denial, and antisemitic tropes. Born in Renfrew and raised in Ayr and Dumfries, Oliver attended Dumfries Academy and the University of Glasgow, where he obtained an MA (Hons) in archaeology before pursuing a career in journalism.
