Lowe has gained recognition for his well-reviewed solo albums and his work as a vocalist, guitarist, bassist, pianist, and harmonica player. Notable songs by Lowe include 'Cruel to Be Kind' (a US Top 40 single) and 'I Love the Sound of Breaking Glass' (a top 10 UK hit). He has also produced music for artists such as Elvis Costello and Graham Parker. Lowe attended Woodbridge School in Suffolk and began his musical career in 1967 as a member of the band Kippington Lodge, which later became Brinsley Schwarz.
