Nico Muhly

Nico Asher Muhly (born August 26, 1981) is an American contemporary classical music composer and arranger. He has worked and recorded with both classical and pop musicians, and has composed for notable symphony orchestras and chamber ensembles. Muhly has had two operas commissioned by the Metropolitan Opera and has released nine studio albums, including collaborations such as 'Planetarium' with Sufjan Stevens, Bryce Dessner, and James McAlister. He is a member of the Icelandic music collective and record label Bedroom Community. Muhly was born in Vermont and raised in Providence, Rhode Island. He began studying piano at age 10 and later attended Columbia University and the Juilliard School.
