Franoszek's parents, Sabine Franek and Eduard Franoszek, were both fine artists, with her father also being a professor at the Berlin University of the Arts. She began her career as a dancer and worked as a model for neo-expressionist painters. Franoszek's acting career started in 1982 with roles in films such as 'Domino' and 'Be Gentle Penguin.' She gained recognition for her performance in the TV Mini-Series 'Sardsch,' which earned her an Adolf Grimme Award. In addition to acting, Franoszek has studied mime, dance, and Japanese studies and ethnology.
