Norma Varden Biography
Norma Varden Shackleton (20 January 1898 – 19 January 1989) was an English-American actress known for her long film career. Born in London to a retired sea captain, Varden initially trained as a concert pianist in Paris before transitioning to acting. She studied at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama and made her first appearance as Mrs Darling in Peter Pan. Varden's talent and versatility led to a successful career in both England and Hollywood. In England, she was a regular member of the Aldwych Theatre company and appeared in numerous British films. She later moved to Hollywood at the start of World War II, where she became known for her character and supporting roles in films and television shows.
