Osborne Earl Smith, also known as Ozzie Smith, is an American former professional baseball player. Born on December 26, 1954, in Mobile, Alabama, Smith played as a shortstop for the San Diego Padres and St. Louis Cardinals in Major League Baseball. He earned the nickname 'the Wizard of Oz' for his exceptional defensive skills at shortstop, winning the National League Gold Glove Award for 13 consecutive seasons. Throughout his career, he amassed 2,460 hits and 580 stolen bases, earning him a spot as a 15-time All-Star. In 2002, Smith was inducted into the Baseball Hall of Fame in his first year of eligibility. Additionally, he was honored with induction into the St. Louis Cardinals Hall of Fame in 2014.
