Patrick Galen Dempsey (born January 13, 1966) is an American actor and racing driver. He gained early success in the 1980s with films like Can't Buy Me Love (1987) and Loverboy (1989). In the 1990s, he had smaller roles in films like Outbreak (1995) and appeared in some television shows. However, he achieved widespread recognition for his portrayal of neurosurgeon Derek 'McDreamy' Shepherd in Grey's Anatomy and his roles in the Disney Enchanted films. Dempsey has also starred in various other films, including Sweet Home Alabama (2002), Enchanted (2007), Transformers: Dark of the Moon (2011), and Bridget Jones's Baby (2016). In addition to acting, Dempsey is an avid racing driver and car collector.
