Anna Marie "Patty" Duke (December 14, 1946 – March 29, 2016) was an American actress and mental health advocate. She achieved success in her acting career, receiving an Academy Award, two Golden Globe Awards, and three Primetime Emmy Awards. Duke gained recognition for her portrayal of Helen Keller in the film The Miracle Worker (1962), for which she won an Academy Award for Best Supporting Actress. She also starred in her own television series, The Patty Duke Show (1963–1966), playing the dual role of Cathy and Patty Lane. Duke went on to play notable roles in films such as Valley of the Dolls (1967) and Me, Natalie (1969), earning her a Golden Globe Award. Additionally, she served as president of the Screen Actors Guild from 1985 to 1988. Duke was a champion for mental health awareness and openly discussed her own diagnosis of bipolar disorder.
