Paul Bentley is a British actor known for his work in stage, film, and television. Born on 25 July 1942 in Sheffield, Bentley was brought up in Surrey and attended Wimbledon College and Kingston Polytechnic. He furthered his education at Birmingham University, earning a BA in English literature and an MA in Drama and Theatre Arts. Bentley is recognized for his portrayal of the High Septon in the popular television series Game of Thrones. In addition to his acting career, he is also a writer. Bentley began his acting career in Munich, appearing in English programmes on the Bavarian radio station Bayerischer Rundfunk and starring in the film The Last Escape. Since returning to England in 1970, he has continued acting in various repertory theatre productions.
