Paul Winfield Biography
Paul Edward Winfield (May 22, 1939 – March 7, 2004) was an American stage, film, and television actor. He gained recognition for his portrayal of a Louisiana sharecropper in the film Sounder (1972), which earned him an Academy Award nomination. Winfield also portrayed Martin Luther King Jr. in the television miniseries King (1978), receiving an Emmy Award nomination. He appeared in notable films such as Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan and The Terminator. On television, Winfield was known for his role in the series L.A. Law and for his recurring role in the sitcom 227. Throughout his career, he received four Emmy nominations, winning in 1995 for his guest role in Picket Fences.
