Peta Murgatroyd is an Australian and American professional Latin dancer, born on July 14, 1986. She gained recognition for her performances in the international tour of the dance production Burn the Floor, including its Broadway run. Murgatroyd is best known for her appearances on the American edition of Dancing with the Stars, where she has won the competition twice with her partners. Originally from Auckland, New Zealand, she moved to Australia at a young age and considers herself more Australian. Murgatroyd started studying classical ballet at age 4 and transitioned to Latin dancing after an ankle injury. She quickly achieved success, becoming the W.A. Amateur Latin State Champion in 2002 and 2003, and placing second in the Great World City Championships.
