    Peter Lawrence Buck (born December 6, 1956) is an American musician and songwriter, best known for being a co-founder and lead guitarist of the alternative rock band R.E.M. Throughout his career with R.E.M. (1980–2011) and his subsequent solo career, Buck has been involved in various 'side project' groups such as Arthur Buck, Hindu Love Gods, The Minus 5, and many more. He is skilled in playing the banjo and mandolin, and has contributed to several R.E.M. songs with these instruments. Buck's collaborations extend to experimental combo Slow Music and ad hoc 'supergroups' like Bingo Hand Job. He has released numerous studio albums with these side projects, showcasing his versatility as a musician.
