Peter Kass Biography
Peter Meyer Kass (April 28, 1923 – August 4, 2008) was an American theater actor, director, and teacher. He gained recognition as a student of Clifford Odets and was selected by Odets to direct and develop The Country Girl on Broadway, where Kass also played the role of Larry. Throughout his career, Kass directed four Broadway plays, including a revival of Odets' Night Music and Lorraine Hansberry's The Sign in Sidney Brustein's Window. He also worked as a television director on Assignment: Manhunt and directed films such as Time of the Heathen. Kass taught at Boston University, New York University, and privately, with notable students such as Olympia Dukakis, Faye Dunaway, and Val Kilmer. Born and raised in Brooklyn, Kass passed away in Manhattan from heart failure.
