Phyllis Ada Diller (née Driver; July 17, 1917 – August 20, 2012) was an American stand-up comedian, actress, author, musician, and visual artist. Known for her eccentric stage persona, self-deprecating humor, wild hair, and clothes, Diller became a household name in the U.S. and was an influence on comedians like Joan Rivers, Roseanne Barr, and Ellen DeGeneres. She was considered a gay icon and openly championed plastic surgery. Diller appeared in over 40 films, starting with 1961's Splendor in the Grass. Her television credits include cameos, a short-lived sitcom, and a variety show. Notable TV appearances include Night Gallery, The Muppet Show, The Love Boat, Cybill, Boston Legal, and 11 seasons of The Bold and the Beautiful.
