Rachel Anne Zegler is an American actress and singer, born on May 3, 2001, in Hackensack, New Jersey. She gained recognition for her role as María in Steven Spielberg's film adaptation of West Side Story (2021), which earned her a Golden Globe Award for Best Actress – Motion Picture Comedy or Musical. Zegler also appeared as Anthea in the superhero film Shazam! Fury of the Gods (2023). Raised in Clifton, New Jersey, she attended St. Philip the Apostle Preparatory School before graduating from Immaculate Conception High School in 2019. Zegler's mother is of Colombian descent, while her father has Polish roots. She began her career in musical theater before making her mark in the film industry.
