Ralph Dayton Sanford (May 21, 1899 – June 20, 1963) was an American film actor known for his appearances in over 180 films and at least 200 television episodes between 1930 and 1960. He mostly played bit parts or supporting roles, frequently showcasing his skills as a tough guy in Westerns. Sanford began his professional career as a dancing partner of Ray Bolger in 1924 and gained his first movie credit in 1933. He made his television debut in 1951, playing various roles. One of his most notable television appearances was on The Life and Legend of Wyatt Earp, where he portrayed Mayor Jim Kelly in 21 episodes. Sanford also served in the infantry during World War I and had a successful career on Broadway.
