Ram John Holder Biography
Ram John Holder, born John Wesley Holder on 2 February 1934, is a Guyanese-British actor and musician. He started his professional career as a singer in New York City before relocating to England in 1962. Holder is well-known for his stage, film, and television performances. He gained prominence for his portrayal of Augustus 'Porkpie' Grant in the Channel 4 sitcom Desmond's, as well as its spin-off series Porkpie. Holder's musical talents were nurtured by his devoutly religious parents, and he excelled at playing the guitar. Initially performing as a folk singer in New York City, Holder later joined Pearl Connor's Negro Theatre Workshop in London, first as a musician and then as an actor.
