Richard Cotovsky (born January 13, 1954) is an American character actor known for his work in film, stage, and television. Born in Chicago, Illinois, Cotovsky attended Southern Illinois University and later transferred to the University of Illinois at the Medical Center to pursue a degree in pharmacy. However, his interest in acting was sparked during his senior year when he took an introduction to theater course. Cotovsky has directed several successful stage productions, including Brian Friel's play "Freedom of the City," for which he received a Joseph Jefferson Citation. In addition to his directing work, he has also acted in notable productions such as the Sam Shepard play "Buried Child" at the Mary-Arrchie Theatre Company in Chicago.
