    Richard Engel (born September 16, 1973) is an American journalist and author known for his extensive coverage of major events in the Middle East. He joined NBC News in 2003 and has since served as the network's Middle East correspondent and Beirut bureau chief. In 2008, Engel was appointed as the chief foreign correspondent for NBC News. He has reported on significant events such as the Iraq War, the Arab Spring, and the Syrian Civil War. Fluent in Arabic, Italian, and Spanish, Engel has received recognition for his courageous journalism, including the Medill Medal for Courage. He has authored two books, 'A Fist in the Hornet's Nest' (2004) and 'And Then All Hell Broke Loose' (2016), chronicling his experiences in the Middle East.
