Richard Marx is an American singer-songwriter known for his adult contemporary and pop rock music. Born on September 16, 1963, Marx has sold over 30 million albums worldwide. He gained success as a songwriter in 1984 with the hit song 'What About Me?' recorded by Kenny Rogers, Kim Carnes, and James Ingram. His self-titled debut album in 1987 went triple-platinum, and his first single 'Don't Mean Nothing' reached number three on the Billboard Hot 100 chart. From 1987 to 1994, Marx had 14 top 20 hits, including three number one singles. He holds the record as the only male artist to have his first seven singles reach the top 5 of the Billboard charts.
