Richard Lee Petty, born on July 2, 1937, is an American former stock car racing driver. He is most known for his time in the NASCAR Grand National and Winston Cup Series, driving the No. 43 Plymouth/Pontiac for Petty Enterprises. Petty is a member of the esteemed Petty racing family and has earned a reputation as the most accomplished driver in NASCAR history. Throughout his career, he won a record-setting seven Cup Series championships, tying with Dale Earnhardt and Jimmie Johnson. Petty holds the record for the most career wins with 200 victories, including a record seven wins at the Daytona 500. He is still involved in the sport as a team owner for GMS Racing and as the owner of Petty's Garage, a car restoration and modification shop in Level Cross, North Carolina.
