Richard Roat (July 3, 1933 – August 5, 2022) was an American actor known for his work in film and television. Born in Hartford, Connecticut, Roat pursued a career in acting despite initial discouragement. He gained experience performing with various amateur theatrical groups in Hartford before hitchhiking to New York City in 1957 to seek opportunities. In New York, he studied under Uta Hagen and Herbert Berghof and took on various jobs to support himself. Roat made his Broadway debut in 1961 and went on to have a successful career on stage. He also appeared in a number of films and television shows throughout his career.
