Rick Berman, born Richard Keith Berman on December 25, 1945, is an American television producer and screenwriter. He gained fame as the executive producer of several Star Trek television series, including Star Trek: The Next Generation, Star Trek: Deep Space Nine, Star Trek: Voyager, and Star Trek: Enterprise. Berman also worked on multiple Star Trek films. Following the footsteps of Gene Roddenberry, he became the head of the Star Trek franchise until the cancellation of Star Trek: Enterprise in 2005. Berman, who grew up in New York City in a Jewish family, attended the University of Wisconsin-Madison, where he earned a degree in English and film production in 1967. Before finding success as a producer, he initially considered pursuing an acting career but decided against it. Berman began his career by producing, directing, and writing independent films, including documentaries and industrial films for esteemed clients such as the United Nations and the United States Information Age.
