Rick Famuyiwa (born June 18, 1973) is an American filmmaker and television director. He gained recognition for directing films such as The Wood (1999), Brown Sugar (2002), and Dope (2015), as well as for his work on the television series The Mandalorian. In 2008, Famuyiwa received an NAACP Image Award for Outstanding Writing in a Motion Picture for his film Talk To Me (2007). Famuyiwa, a second-generation American, grew up in Inglewood, near Los Angeles, California. He attended the University of Southern California (USC) after high school. Famuyiwa's films have garnered critical acclaim and have been honored with various nominations and awards.
