He gained early recognition with his debut on ABC's sitcom A New Kind of Family at the age of 15. Lowe then became a prominent member of the Brat Pack, a group of young actors, with roles in notable films like The Outsiders, Class, and St. Elmo's Fire. In the 1990s, his career experienced a resurgence with his portrayal of Sam Seaborn on the NBC drama The West Wing, earning him Emmy and Golden Globe nominations. Lowe has also appeared in other television shows including Brothers & Sisters and Parks and Recreation.
