Robert Merrill
Robert Merrill (1917-2004) was an American operatic baritone and actor known for his work in both opera and musical theatre. Born Moishe Miller, later known as Morris Miller, in Brooklyn, New York, Merrill began his early voice training to overcome a stutter. He was inspired to pursue a singing career after seeing Richard Bonelli perform at the Metropolitan Opera. Merrill received professional singing lessons and went on to have a successful career, performing at the Metropolitan Opera for over 30 years. He also appeared in various musical theatre productions. In recognition of his contributions to the arts, Merrill received the National Medal of Arts in 1993.
