Roger Ashton-Griffiths is an English character actor, screenwriter, and film director. He was born on January 19, 1957, in Hertfordshire. Ashton-Griffiths attended Altrincham Grammar School for Boys in Manchester before studying music at Lancaster University, where he graduated in 1978. He started his career as a singer with the English National Opera at the London Coliseum from 1979 to 1981. Ashton-Griffiths is best known for his role as Mace Tyrell in the HBO fantasy series Game of Thrones. He has also appeared in notable films like Brazil (1985), The Brothers Grimm (2005), A Knight's Tale (2001), and many others.
