Roger Clark Biography
Roger Clark (5 August 1939 – 12 January 1998) was a British rally driver who achieved success during the 1960s and '70s. He was the first competitor from the United Kingdom to win a World Rally Championship (WRC) event, securing victory at the 1976 RAC Rally. Born to a motor dealer named Roger Clark, he joined his father's business as an apprentice after completing his education at Hinckley Grammar School. Clark gained experience as a mechanic and later helped expand the business by acquiring new sales franchises. He was a member of the Leicester Car Club and had Jim Porter as his co-driver for 20 years. Throughout his career, Clark competed with various car models, including a borrowed Ford Model Y for his rallying debut at the club level.
