Russell Ira Crowe (born 7 April 1964) is an actor. Born in New Zealand and raised in Australia, Crowe began his acting career in Australia before gaining international recognition for his roles in films such as Romper Stomper (1992), L.A. Confidential (1997), and The Insider (1999). He achieved widespread fame and won an Academy Award for Best Actor for his portrayal of Maximus Decimus Meridius in Gladiator (2000). Crowe has also been acclaimed for his performances in A Beautiful Mind (2001), Master and Commander: The Far Side of the World (2003), Cinderella Man (2005), and 3:10 to Yuma (2007). He has received numerous awards for his work, including two Golden Globe Awards and a British Academy Film Award.
