Russell David Johnson (November 10, 1924 – January 16, 2014) was an American actor known for his roles in Gilligan's Island and Black Saddle. Born in Ashley, Pennsylvania in 1924, Johnson was the eldest of seven siblings. He attended Girard College, a private boarding school in Philadelphia. After high school, Johnson enlisted in the United States Army Air Forces during World War II. Following his military service, he pursued a career in acting, making his film debut in 1952. However, he gained widespread recognition for his portrayal of Professor Roy Hinkley in the popular television show Gilligan's Island. Johnson also appeared in the Western series Black Saddle as Marshal Gib Scott. Russell Johnson passed away on January 16, 2014.
