Ruth Madoc (1943-2022) was a British actress known for her performances on stage and screen. Born Margaret Ruth Llewellyn Baker on April 16, 1943, in Norwich, she had a successful career spanning over 60 years. Madoc gained recognition for her role as Gladys Pugh in the BBC television comedy Hi-de-Hi! (1980-1988), earning a BAFTA TV award nomination for Best Light Entertainment Performance. She also starred in The Life and Times of David Lloyd George in 1981. Madoc's parents, George Baker and Iris Williams, worked in healthcare and ran an institution for people with severe learning difficulties. Despite a nomadic childhood, she was raised by her Welsh grandmother, Etta.
