Sam Bottoms Biography
Samuel John Bottoms (October 17, 1955 – December 16, 2008) was an American actor and producer. Born in Santa Barbara, California, Bottoms was the son of James 'Bud' Bottoms, a sculptor and art teacher, and Betty Chapman. He had three brothers who were also actors: Timothy, Joseph, and Ben Bottoms. At the age of 16, Bottoms was given a screen test on the set of The Last Picture Show and ended up appearing in the film as the character Billy. He later appeared in The Outlaw Josey Wales alongside Clint Eastwood. Bottoms is best known for his role as surfer Lance B. Johnson in Francis Ford Coppola's Apocalypse Now. He passed away in 2008.
