Sam Johnson Biography
Samuel Robert Johnson (October 11, 1930 – May 27, 2020) was an American politician and Air Force colonel. He served as the U.S. representative for TX's 3rd congressional district from 1991 to 2019, representing the Republican Party. Johnson was a decorated fighter pilot, serving in both the Korean War and the Vietnam War, where he was held as a prisoner of war in North Vietnam for almost seven years. He held various positions in Congress, including acting Chairman of the House Committee on Ways and Means. Johnson was born in San Antonio, Texas, on October 11, 1930, and he was the last Korean War veteran to serve in Congress.
