Sam McDaniel Biography
Samuel Rufus McDaniel (January 28, 1886 – September 24, 1962) was an American actor who appeared in over 210 television shows and films between 1929 and 1950. Born in Wichita, Kansas, to former slaves, McDaniel was the older brother of actresses Etta McDaniel and Hattie McDaniel. He grew up in Denver, Colorado, and graduated from Denver East High School. McDaniel started his career in a traveling minstrel show with his siblings, but after the death of his brother, he found work in Los Angeles. He had roles as butlers, doormen, valets, porters, and servants in many movies and TV shows.
