Sammy Shore Biography
Sammy Shore (February 7, 1927 – May 18, 2019) was an American actor, stand-up comedian, and co-founder of The Comedy Store. He began his career in stand-up comedy in the Catskill Mountains, performing alongside Shecky Greene. In 1969, he was selected to open for Elvis Presley's comeback performance at the International Hotel in Las Vegas, and continued to open for Presley's road shows until 1972. Shore also performed comedy with notable artists such as Tony Orlando, Tony Bennett, Barbra Streisand, and Sammy Davis Jr. Additionally, he appeared in films such as The Bellboy and Life Stinks. Shore served in the U.S. Navy during World War II and went on to co-found the Comedy Store in 1972, which launched the careers of many notable comedians including his own son, Pauly Shore.
