Sasha Velour

Sasha Velour, born Alexander Steinberg on June 25, 1987, is an American drag queen, artist, actor, and stage and television producer. Known for winning the ninth season of RuPaul's Drag Race, Velour is based in Brooklyn, New York. She is the creator of the drag revue NightGowns and has gained recognition for her one-queen theatrical work, Smoke & Mirrors. Velour was born in Berkeley, California, and raised in New Haven, Connecticut before moving to Urbana, Illinois. She is the only child of Mark Steinberg, a scholar of Russian history, and Jane Hedges, an editor. Velour is of Russian Jewish descent and identifies with her father's faith.
