Scott McCloud (born June 10, 1960) is an American cartoonist and comics theorist. He gained recognition in the 1980s as an independent superhero cartoonist and advocate for creator's rights. McCloud is best known for his non-fiction books about comics, including 'Understanding Comics' (1993), 'Reinventing Comics' (2000), and 'Making Comics' (2006), all of which are presented in the medium of comics. He has been influential in the industry since the 1990s and has promoted the use of new technology in creating and distributing comics. McCloud was born in Boston, Massachusetts, and attended Syracuse University's Illustration program, graduating with a Bachelor of Fine Arts.
